Rachel Sarah XO

Hey guys!
So it's safe to say this month has been pretty bad in the way of blogging. I've really not been motivated enough to post anything really, but it's that time of the month where I need to do a favourites post so here we go!

Songs I've been loving this month:
Of Mice & Men's new album came out a few days ago *squeal*, so I've been loving every song off that. You go pick that up on iTunes if you wish, 'Restoring Force' by Of Mice & Men ;o
I've been really loving Killswitch Engage this month also, so anything by them. (I'm listening to them now, as I type this.)
White Lies - Man Overboard.
Montrose - Man Overboard.
Frick Park Market - Mac Miller.
Dark Horse - Katy Perry.
Donatella - Lady Gaga.

Movies I've been loving this month:
Considering I've been doing practically nothing this month, I've watched hardly any movies this month which is disappointing, I've basically just been trying to watch the movies that are in my DVD collection that I haven't gotten round to watching yet.
American Psycho, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Tangled, Aladdin, Superbad, American Pie 1 & 2, Carrie (2013).
I've pretty much been loving the same movies as last month but hey ho!

TV shows I've been loving this month:
Sherlock (DID YOU SEE THAT CLIFFHANGER??? OMG), RuPaul's Drag Race (Finished all 5 seasons in a week, wut) Oddities: San Francisco and Criminal Minds - love me some crime shows.

Video games I've been loving this month:
For the first half of January, Grand Theft Auto V controlled my life and now I've been stuck with a load of missions that I've rage quit on so I'm like 40% into the game and I've just kind of stopped playing it, oops. I literally haven't played any video games this month besides GTA, um oops.

Drinks I've been loving this month:
Shapers Sparkling Pink Grapfruit Juice (Boots own low calorie drinks, mm) and sparkling mango juice. I'm all about the juice this month.

Food I've been loving this month:
Gregg's sandwiches in general and Gregg's belgian buns, mm mm mm. Bless my mother for working there and getting a ridiculously good discount.

Make up items I've been loving this month:
Sleek I-Divine palette in 'Vintage Romance' and I don't care if this doesn't class as make up but the Real Techniques Core Collection, them brushes doe.

Life favourites:
Honestly? Nothing much. This month has been absolutely crap in the way of my mental health and my wellbeing in general. I actually thought 2014 would be a tad bit better and at the moment it's treated my awfully so, that's fun! One life favourite though is my friendship with Abbie, she's brilliant. She said to me after reading my new year's resolutions post that she would try to help me get out the house more and do stuff this year, and she's put up with me really well so far, I'm very grateful for her existence and it's people like her that brings back my faith in humanity. So Abbie, if you're reading this, I love you dearly and you're the best okay, you biaatch. ;o

Am I looking forward to anything next month?
I haven't got anything planned, no. I'd like to hope that next month I may have a job but hahaha that's not looking to great at the moment but oh well, I'm trying!

I hope you've all had a great January and 2014 is treating you well! I'd love to hear what you've been up to this month.

That's all for now,
Rachel. xo

Hey guys!
So, I'm pretty sure I haven't posted anything in maybe, a week? I've kind of had a lot going on lately but I'm not going to going into detail, plus, super lacking in motivation still but I'm going to do an 'easy' blog post today, haha!
Charlotte at A Cageless Bird did this tag and she tagged everyone who read her post so, here we go, I'm gonna do it.

This Or That,

Make up:

Blush or Bronzer?
Bronzer. I'm pale, so adding something that'll just make my cheeks rosy won't really suffice, haha!

Lip gloss or Lipstick?
Lipstick lipstick lipstick. Lip gloss freaks me out, like what's the appeal of putting sticky stuff all over your lips? (That's what she said, hahaha.)

Eyeliner or Mascara?
Mascara, my eyelashes are pretty long anyways but I don't feel comfortable not wearing mascara. Plus, I feel like 12 year old goth child when I was eyeliner.

Foundation or Concealer?
Foundation, I have such an uneven skin tone so that needs to be covered up, plus if I'm having a good skin day I can get away with wearing just foundation.

Neutral or Colour eyeshadow?
Neutral, definitely. I may wear the odd purple here and there but always neutral.

Pressed or Loose eyeshadows?
Well considering I've never tried a loose eyeshadow, I'll go with pressed, it's probably way less messy too.

Brushes or sponges?
Brushes 5eva. I find sponges really unhygienic and harder to clean (even them stupid Beauty Blenders).

Nails:

OPI or China Glaze?
OPI, although I don't wear nail polish because of how disgustingly short my nails are.

Long or Short?
Short nails is all I've known since I first learned how to use my mouth, hahaha. When I'm anxious I bite my nails (so like all the time really.)

Acrylic or Natural?
Well I'd love to try acrylics, maybe that help with the nail biting but for now natural I suppose.

Brights or Darks?
Always brights.

Flower or No Flower?
Um, no flower.

Body:

Perfume or Body Splash?
Well, I have no idea what body splash is, so perfume.

Lotion or Body Butter?
Really doesn't bother me, they both do the same thing, right? Since I own more of these, I'll go with body lotion.

Body Wash or Soap?
Always body wash, soap is too much of a hassle.

Lush or Other Bath Company?
Lush are alright, but I'd always choose The Body Shop over them, soz.

Fashion:

Jeans or Sweatpants?
I despise jeans, so sweatpants (I'd never leave the house wearing them though, don't worry.) I almost always wearing a skirt with leggings.

Long sleeve or short?
Doesn't matter, I always wear something long sleeved over the top of any shirt anyways so.

Stripes or Plaid?
Plaid, for sure.

Flip flops or Sandals?
Ew feet no. Neither neither neither. If I had to pick, sandals.

Scarves or Hats?
Oh, that's a hard one. I've got a collection of about 30 beanies now but I wear a scarf pretty much everyday. Scarves, waaah.

Studs or Dangly Earrings?
Studs.

Necklaces or Bracelets?
Depends, I wear bracelets everyday but I love necklaces so much more (it's just harder to match necklaces with an outfit.)

Heels or Flats?
Flats all the way omg.

Cowboy or Riding Boots?
Cowboy boots are the best boots ever.

Jacket or Hoodie?
Jacket probably, I wear a hoodies more when I'm lounging around the house.

Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe?
Forever 21 since I've ordered a few times from them and they exist in the UK, unlike Charlotte Russe.

Abercrombie or Hollister?
Walking into Hollister is a terrifying experience, IT'S SO DARK OMG. But they make the nicest body sprays, so Hollister.

Saks 5th or Nordstrom?
I'm sorry, what are those?

Hair:

Curly or Straight?
My hair's naturally almost ringlet like curly and I hate it, so straight.

Bun or Ponytail?
My hair's to short to put in a bun so ponytail.

Bobby Pins or Butterfly Grips?
Bobby pins definitely, butterfly grips hurt my head.

Hairspray or Gel?
Gel makes my hair looks so greasy, ew. Hairspray is the way to go.

Long or Short?
I've had short hair for like 3 years now because it just won't grow and I hate it and extensions don't blend with my hair so I'll go with long.

Light or Dark?
I loved my white/silver hair and my purple hair too! But I like the look of my black hair at the moment, really contrasts with my ghost white face, hahaha.

Side Swept Bangs or Full Bangs?
At the moment I have kind of 'Bettie bangs' if you can call them that and I love it, so full bangs.

Up or Down?
Always down! I hate when my hair's up.

Random:

Rain or Shine?
I like when it sunny but not hot, haha!

Autumn or Spring?
Autumn, because again, it's still quite sunny but less heat.

East Coast or West Coast?
I'm going to assume this tag was made by an American, haha. I live like half an hour away from the East coast as I live in East Anglia, so East coast, haha.

I tag everyone who's reading this right now! I'd love to read your responses to this tag!

Also, I've recently set up a Facebook page for my blog (here), would be grand if you could go over and give it a like!

That's all for now,
Rachel. xo

So, people always say 'people are ignorant towards the things they fear or do not understand', well please, start understanding, it's not rocket science.

I'd say this post is inspired by my dad, he's super ignorant when it comes to mental health and just doesn't really take an interest and doesn't bother to research it, whereas my mum has experienced it herself and it runs on her side of the family so she understands it a lot more.

So, one down side to having depression is the sheer lack of motivation you have, I know that recently it's hit me really hard so I've been finding it hard to do simple things like, take a shower, make dinner, get dressed. So there's pleeeenty of things my dad's said to me recently that I'd quite happily slap him in the face for if he says it again, like:

  • "For god's sake, how long have you been lounging on that sofa for? It's been a week now."
  • "WILL YOU JUST GET OUT OF YOUR PYJAMAS FOR ONCE?"
  • "Wash your hair, it looks beyond greasy."
  • "Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get some housework done."
  • Being called a 'lazy shit' is always a fun one.
  • My sleeping pattern is completely messed up, I'll sleep on the sofa during the day and then stay up all night downstairs so "If I come downstairs tomorrow morning for work and you're still down here I'm going to make sure you don't sleep."
Let me just get one thing straight here. There's no motivation there, it's not like you choose not to do these things because you just can't be bothered, when you have no motivation you're often mentally and physically exhausted, whether it's down to no sleep or something else, it's not laziness.

Let me move onto things not to say / things that I've heard been said to someone with anxiety:
  • "Is it just an attention thing?"
  • "Hahahah, you were shaking and everything!" (Yeah, a 'friend' once said that to me.)
  • "Is there something wrong with you?"
  • "Just calm down!"
  • "There's nothing wrong with you, you're being over-dramatic."
  • So, I've stuttered really bad since I was around 4 or 5, which I now realise was probably down to anxiety, so if I stutter and someone says "Yeah, spit it out." or "Isn't really that hard to say, is it?" I just want to crawl up into a ball and die. Obviously pointing out that I've just stuttered is going to set my anxiety off so much more, so yes, there's no need to be an arsehole.
  • "Why do you go to the toilet so much?" Well, there's this thing called anxious urination, which means you piss when you're nervous, bye.
  • "Just get over it."
Wow, I really do hate people sometimes.

Well, there you go! There's some of my experiences with ignorant people. I mean come on, it takes wait? 5 seconds to google something. Maybe if you all took time out of your day for 5 minutes to look up the definition of depression or anxiety, you may learn something and might realise that whatever it is you've said has made the situation 10 times worse or has triggered someone's anxiety.

I just really needed to let my anger towards ignorant people out, well I feel 100 times better after this blog post, woooo.

Okay, thanks for reading! And let me know if you've ever had an encounter with an overly-ignorant person!

Hey guys!

So basically, for the past couple of years, Goodreads has set up a reading challenge, where you choose how many books you want to read in a year and there's like a progress bar that'll tell you the percentage of books you've read this year and stuff, well I didn't take part in it in 2013 because I'd kind of lost track of my reading and I ended up reading maybe 7 books last year, yeah I know. Not great.

So this year, I'm going to take part in it, and I've set myself the challenge of reading 50 books this year, maybe if I complete the challenge this year, I may do the 100 book challenge next year, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

So, at the moment, I've accumulated a whole loooad of books and they're just sitting there in my TBR (to be read) pile. I'm going to list the books that I've bought and have yet to read. I may make this a monthly post, just like a 2014 reading challenge update post or something where I talk about how many books I've read each month, pages in total and what not, I might do that!

So for the books:
  • Survivor: My Story - The Next Chapter by Sharon Osbourne.
  • RSVP by Helen Warner.
  • The Knife Of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking #1) by Patrick Ness.
  • One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest by Ken Kesey.
  • Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows by J.K Rowling.
  • American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis.
  • The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
  • The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick.
  • Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason by Helen Fielding.
Any suggestions of books would be fantastic! I'll read pretty much anything as long as it's interesting, I especially like young adult contemporary with psychological themes, but that's just me being picky!

If you're taking part in the Goodreads 2014 Reading Challenge, I'd love to hear about it!

And do feel free to follow me on Goodreads (link) and see my progress there!

That's all for now,
Rachel. xo

Hey guys!
So I was nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award by the gorgeous Becky at beckysbeautyfix. I don't know, it's nice that my blog's being recognised, especially since I've only been at it for a few months, so thank you, Becky!

Rules:
If you're nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award, you've been awarded the award.
Thank the person who awarded you and include the link to their blog.

I'd like to nominate:
1. Taylor (taylorscollectionn)
2. Vanessa (Citron and Guavaberry)
3. Charlotte (A Cageless Bird)

7 Things About Me:

1. I'm extremely passionate about mental health (if the blog wasn't obvious enough, haha!), I'd pretty much do everything I can to defend it and help with getting it away from the unneeded stigma it's always had.

2. I've suffered with social anxiety and panic disorder since I was about 12 due to bullying and depression since I was around 15.

3. Make up is one thing I like to think I'm fairly good at and I'm pretty proud of it.

4. I own two guinea pigs and I've named them after Star Wars characters, Anakin and Obi-Wan.

6. I'm absolutely petrified of clowns, if I even see a glimpse of a clown I get this awful stabbing pain in my stomach as if I'd seen the clown and it stabbed me with it's eyes or something, I see a clown and nearly burst into tears. Clowns are banned in this household.

7. I'm so short, it's crazy. I'm only 4'11", I'm sure I could be classed as dwarf, I'm not sure!

Again, thank you so much to Becky, I really appreciate it. And I look forward to reading you girls' blog posts regarding the Versatile Blogger Award! :-)

Thanks for reading,
Rachel. xo

Hey guys!
So this post is going to be my current beauty favourites. I feel like when I do my monthly favourites, I don't really mention many beauty products. I suppose this could also be interpreted as a 'what's in my make up bag' since these are the things I use pretty much everyday. I actually got to use my DSLR this time round so yey for high quality pictures!

MAC Lipstick in 'Candy Yum Yum'
I absolutely adore this lipstick! It's pretty hard to wear sometimes though. It's such a vibrant pink, practically neon, my dad reckons it would be 'Cyndi Lauper's lipstick of choice', he reckons I look very 80's wearing it, hahaha.

W7 Brow Bar
This is my favourite eyebrow kit, the kit itself is so versatile, all of the shades work perfectly as eyeshadows aswell as brow powders. I use the dark dark brown one now that my hair is black. It comes with a little brush but I threw that away because I didn't like it. The powder stays on your eyebrows all day with or without eyebrow gel.

Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
This is maybe the best lip balm I've ever tried, even beats Carmex (sorry Carmex!), it's very minty and you can feel it when it's moisturising your lips as it tingles, haha. I'll never use another lip balm again.

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Laquer in 'Kooky'
The MUA Luxe Lip Laquers could be considered an exact dupe for the Lime Crime Velvetines, similar pigmentation and very similar shades. Kooky is a dark purple shade, pretty wearable if you want a lipstick that's a bit 'out there', very dark though and extremely matte, so matte that you can just feel the skin on your lips starting to flake, so I usually pair this with my Collection Little Mix lipstick in 'Perrie' and it goes perfectly and stops my lips from cracking.

Seventeen Phwoarrr Paint Concealer
My favourite concealer ever, perfect for under the eyes and because it is a thick, heavy duty cream concealer (similar to that of MAC Studio Finish concealer), it hides blemishes super well, I've done a full review on this product here.

Seventeen Miracle Matte Loose Powder
I have very dry skin as it is so rarely use powder, but if I ever do choose to wear powder, I will always go for this one. I don't know what it is about it, it applies so seamlessly and it doesn't look powdery on the skin.

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 'Light Porcelain'
I absolutely adore this foundation, it is a radient foundation so not one for the oily skinned. I love it purely because most drug store brands will have their lightest shade which is usually 'Ivory' and it's always just too dark for me still (I have like Snow White pale skin, it's ridiculous) but this is a shade lighter than Ivory and it matches perfectly (get the pun?)

Nivea Daily Essentials Rich Moisturising Day Cream for Dry & Sensitive Skin
This is the moisturiser I wear underneath make up, so I need a fairly light moisturiser and this does the job perfectly, it definitely does a good job of keeping my face moisturised for a fair few hours, if I'm not wearing make up, I'll usually opt for a night cream all over my face (yes, that's how dry my skin is). I also did a review of this too (here)

Real Techniques Core Collection
I absolutely love every brush in the collection but these two brushes stood out the most for me (left - contour brush. right - buffing brush.) The contour brush gets right into the hollows of the cheekbones to create a precise line and is perfect for blending, I also use this for blusher and highlighter and sometimes my powder too if I'm feeling lazy. The buffing brush creates the look of pretty much flawless looking skin and applies liquid foundation especially well, it's so easy to blend with and it's an all round great brush!

Sleek I-Divine Vintage Romance Palette
This is such a perfect palette, you can create really natural looks with it and also dark, smokey looks, it's a pretty versatile palette although it does only have one matte shade (top far right copper shade), but never the less, I've been at least two shades on my eyes every day. See my full review of this palette here.

Simple Spotless Skin Quick Fix Cleansing Wipes
Yes, yes I know. 'Rachel, using facial wipes is bad for your skin, ermahgerd that's so lazy you don't even properly cleanse your face ew gross ermahgerd'. I like using cleansing wipes to get the base of my make up off so foundation, concealer and eye make up, I'll then go in with a proper cleanser and get all the remaining muck off my face. Plus, I've noticed a difference in my skin when using this, it really is helping with vanishing and preventing spots, these wipes are great!

Well, I hope you enjoyed that and please, embrace the high quality pictures, hahaha.
Tell me below what your current beauty favourites are!

That's all for now,
Rachel. xo

Hey guys!

So today mum had a hospital appointment and because we had a few hours to kill, I thought, why not pop into Boots and look at the sale stuff since Boots is only 10 minutes down the road from the hospital. I was already aware there was a 70% sale but I'd already began thinking I'd walk out there empty handed as all of the good stuff would have been gone already, but I was wrong! I got some absolute steals today!

I thought it would have been safer to go into a shop aswell instead of online as everything would have sold out instantly anyways.
Admittedly, the shelves were almost empty except from the 7 different perfume gift sets, couple of make up palettes and some random bits, gutted that there was no Soap & Glory, but oh well!

Lady Gaga Fame 30ml Perfume Gift Set - Was £24.50, reduced to £7.35.
I'd been wanting this perfume set for a super long time, I adore Gaga but just wasn't convinced I liked the scent everytime I sampled it, it takes a while to settle on your skin and after about 5 minutes, the gorgeous scent starts to seep through and for £7.35, you can't go wrong. (For some reason the gift set isn't on the Boots website, how strange.)
Set contains: 30ml Black Fluid Eau De Parfum & 200ml Black Shower Gel.

Salonniere Beauty Body Trio by Jenny Packham - Was £16, reduced to £4.80.
Mum was the one that bought this one, potential birthday/Christmas present for someone in the family.
The packaging is absolutely gorgeous, oh my goodness.
Set contains: 250ml Body Shimmer, 150ml Body Wash and 150ml Body Polish.

Mini Fragrances for Her - Was £15, reduced to £4.50.
Bought this one for my sister, she's not usually one for wearing perfume, but instead of getting her a perfume that she doesn't like, she has the freedom to try out 4 new ones.
Set contains: 5ml Moschino Pink Bouquet, 10ml Ghost Deep Night, 10ml Lipsy London, 5ml Ted Baker Sweet Treat Polly.

Long Personalised Hanging Calendar - Was £10, reduced to £3.
Again, this was bought for my sister as she wanted a Florence & The Machine calendar (which are impossible to find btw), so got her this so she can pick the photos herself and what not.

Personalised Photo 2014 Organizer - Was £10, reduced to £3.
Mum bought this for herself as she needed a diary for 2014 and she's an organized freak, hahaha.

Be Enchanted Starlight Shadows Colour Palette - Was £12, reduced to £3.60.
HOLY CRAP WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT PACKAGING OH MY GOODNESS. One pet peeve, it opens and closes like a book, no magnetic opening, nothing, so I'm going to get a piece of elastic and stick it to the back of the palette so eyeshadow doesn't get everywhere. The colours are very fairytaley.
Palette contains: 9x eyeshadows 9g, 4x lip glosses 2.8g, 3x brush applicators.

Gorjuss Pencil Case - Was £7, reduced to £2.10.
£7 FOR A PENCIL CASE?! HOW RIDICULOUS. But it is cute. Bought this for Hannah as she's been wanting something from Gorjuss for ages and this is the cheapest thing we've found, hahaha.

The total came to £28.85 and the total amount of money I saved was £67.56, yey!

Well that's it for this haul, I hope you enjoyed!
Let me know if you hit up the Boots sale and let me know what products you got!

That's all for now,
Rachel. xo

Hey guys!
So I got this travel size version of the mascara free with Elle magazine about a month back now and I've been itching to do a review on before it runs out so here it is.

I must warn you, this is the first mascara review I've done before because I'm extremely self conscious of my eyelashes, as I do suffer with trichotillomania, my eyelashes are the places where my brain chooses to pull out, so the huge gap in the middle of my row of eyelashes is due to that, plus my eyelashes are naturally long so it just looks weird. Also, awful iPhone quality pictures yet again, under my laptop screen lighting, hahaha. Let's get to it!

So this 4g version of the normally 8.6g mascara retails for around £5 whereas the 8.6g one retails for about £19 and I'm sure I'll buy the full version when I'm financially stable enough to spend £20 on a mascara (ouch!) The packaging is very simple and cute and I like that it has a flat bottom, makes it easier to store, the lid tightens quite a bit too unlike some mascaras I own, I feel because of the tightish lid, it'll dry out less quickly.

Now, one thing I thought I'd absolutely hate about this mascara. THE FREAKIN' PLASTICY GROSS APPLICATOR, UGH. I have this thing where I basically can't wear any of these sorts of mascara as the bristles really really irritate my eyes, this is the only mascara made of plastic that hasn't done that! I'm usually a thick bristled mascara kind of girl myself but whatever! The applicator is quite thin and has a ball at the end which is used to get into the inner corner of the eyelashes and the outer corner and it works gosh darn well.

Time for the swatches!

Okay so let me just clarify, I have naturally pretty long eyelashes that any mascara on them will look pretty clumpy which kind of looks like what's happened here, this is only with one coat of mascara and then loads of combing through to declumpify them, I can promise you this mascara does not look this bad on everybody, hahaha. I tried it out on my mum and she has long eyelashes that are fairly separated and it looked brill!
So as you can see, a pretty drastic difference after just one coat and it's a great mascara!

I really think this is a great mascara and is definitely worth the £19 for the full price version (although it seems that you can buy the genuine full version for about £8-£12 on eBay!)

Benefit have done a great job with this one!

Hey guys!
I feel I've been slacking a bit on my posts lately and I haven't had the chance to buy many beauty items lately, there won't be a review for a week or so yet (sorry!) but I do hope you've all entered my giveaway to win a gorgeous bridal/prom tiara!

This post will be written entirely from my experiences with anxiety and panic attacks throughout my school and college life. So in November I actually wasn't able to deal with my panic attacks and anxiety in college and ended up dropping out 2 months in, so this post may seem a bit hypocritical, but I survived 5 years of high school at least!

My panic attacks really kicked in when I started my new high school in year 8, my mum took me to the doctors and the woman thought I just had really bad asthma (any good doctor would be able to tell, that was not the case).
I actually went through school without telling my teachers anything about my social anxiety and panic attacks (although I'm sure they'd already noticed) until maybe, end of year 10 when my attendance started getting so bad, I'd make up any lie to make sure they weren't aware of what was going on because at that time I felt alone and ashamed about what was wrong with me, I felt weird. I went to countless amounts of attendance meetings with the heads of the school and the school governors and it wasn't until they threatened my mum with court that I finally went to the deputy head (who always ran the attendance meetings) and told her what was happening, that just made school 50% easier, I didn't have to worry about my attendance as much as I was, I had a reason for walking out of lessons mid-way through when I felt panicky and the school did so much to try and support me, I no longer had to go to assemblies (that was when my anxiety was at it's peak, sitting on the floor in a crowded sports hall with a couple hundred people just scared the shit out of me basically) so my form tutor and deputy head found a way for me to still do something during form time when I was meant to be at assembly, I'd go and see the school counsellor lady and she'd work on helping me with my panic attacks and she'd help with any work I was struggling with. The one thing I was so appreciative of, I realised the November before my exams when I was doing my mock exams that my panic attacks was worse in exams than ever, I was able to sit in a classroom with about 10 other people (which was sooo much better than sitting in room with a hundred or so kids.)
Now, the social anxiety side of things wasn't so fun either, I found it really hard to talk to anybody outside of my friendship group and then, even talking to people in my friendship group at the time was pretty hard, it wasn't until I'd fully learnt to trust my friends that I was completely comfortable talking to them. I was unable to work with other people in the class, I was quiet and just sat at the back in most of my lessons, I wouldn't dare participate in lessons which often got me in trouble.

Sometimes I don't know what I'd have done without Shauna, Rachel and Karis in my final year at school. Shauna was the one that was always there in my lessons and if I ever had a panic attack, she'd explain to the teacher what was going on if  I just walked out of a lesson and if I needed to calm myself down, she was there. Rachel and Karis were always there for me and they were the only people that knew about what was going on that I didn't feel were judging me for it, they're the most understanding people. I know I'm not easy to be friends with but they were there for me when my anxiety was at it's worst and I couldn't be more grateful.

Unfortunately I failed all of my exams and it's probably to do with the fact I had about two panic attacks in each exam, but hey, I tried my best!

Tips for college/school:

  • Let the school/college know as soon as you feel something is not quite right or as soon as you've been diagnosed. It takes a lot to speak to someone in authority about such a private subject, but your teachers will only want the best for you and high school will seem a lot easier once you've told them.
  • There's absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to your friendship group and don't ever feel like you have to mix with others in your class, if the school/college are aware of your problem, likelyhood is, they may make an exception and let you stay with your friends when doing group work.
  • There are going to be people who'll ask you 'oh, why did you walk out of the lesson?', you can either tell them what happened or tell them to bugger off, it's none of their business. As long as the teachers are aware you've walked out and know the reason why, they're the only people that need to know.
  • Try your hardest to participate in lessons, I've learnt that no one even cares if you get the answer wrong, you're more likely to get praised for having a go than not trying at all.
  • If you need extra support, ask for it. Don't go through your entire high school life worrying about everything. If you need extensions on coursework because your attendance is bad, ask for it. If you need someone to help you with exam stress, ask for it. You're going to seem a lot more determined to get through high school and do well therefore you're probably going to be allowed the extra support. If you go to school on the odd occasion and don't ask for the work you've missed and don't complete the coursework in time without a reasonable excuse, the school/college aren't going to care, you're going to come across as lazy and they won't want to help you.
  • You may not need the extra support, you may just need the school/college to get off your back about your attendance but if they offer the support, might aswell take it, it's going to help you so much more in the long run.
  • Finally, if you're worried about your exams, tell someone. If you feel like you're not sure about a piece of work you've studied that's sure to come up in the exam, tell whatever teacher that teaches you that subject and of course they'll help you. Teachers only want you to do the best you can and if any little push can help towards passing your exams, they're going to take the opportunity to help.
I hope this helped some of you!
I'd love to hear about how high school was/is for you if you have social anxiety and suffer with panic attacks.

Thanks for reading,
Rachel. xo

Quite a lot of people struggle with telling their friends and family that they may think they have a mental illness, this is information for the friends and family of people who may have a mental illness.

Worried that your family member/friend might have a mental illness?

Here are some things that you may notice about your loved one:
  • Extreme lack of interest in doing things that they once enjoyed.
  • Poor performance at school/work.
  • Lack of attendance at school/work.
  • Mood swings that happen very quickly and are normally very out of character for that person.
  • Changes in appetite: lack of appetite or over eating.
  • Loss of, or increase in sexual desire.
  • Sleep problems.
  • Increased anxiety. (The person may seem on edge, or jumpy, they may also start having panic attacks.)
  • Feeling tired and lack of energy.
  • Not wanting to socialise, wanting to be left alone and low moods. Or it could be the complete opposite, constantly socialising, making new friends all the time and extremely happy, this could imitate a 'high'.
  • Isolating themselves.
If you've noticed a few of these things in your loved one's personality as of late, they very well might have a mental illness, it's always better to catch these things early as they're easier to deal with when you notice the signs earlier on.

As soon as you've noticed any of these symptoms, I highly encourage you to speak to the person being affected and try and convince them to see their GP (general practitioner). The person affected may refuse entirely, you need to make it clear to them that the longer they wait to get help, the more the problem will develop. If they still refuse, go to the GP yourself or writing a letter to your GP explaining the situation in full and then leave it up to the GP to decide what he thinks is going on. In the case, they may invite you and your loved one for a check up or may even do a home visit if they think it could become worse. If you don't think talking to a GP is the way to go, you can always get in contact with a CMHT (Community Mental Health Team), a CMHT is made up of psychiatrist, psychologists and communite psychiatric nurses. Often you will need a referral from a GP but some mental health teams will accept self referrals.

Supporting someone with a mental illness.
  • Try to accept the illness and the fact the affected person has it.
  • Try your hardest not to get overwhelmed by the amount of difficulties and obstacles it can cause in day to day life.
  • Be patient as recovery can take a really long time in some cases.
  • Try and encourage the affected person to take part in social activities or to take up a hobby.
  • Make a plan of action of what to do incase of a crisis.
  • If things go wrong, DO NOT blame yourself. It's never anyone elses fault.
  • Make sure you look after yourself.
  • For friends: If you're friends with the affected person, do not abandon the friendship because of their illness, friendships are so hard to hold onto when you have a mental illness and the more friendships the person loses, the harder the recovery will become.
  • For friends: Make sure they're okay, ask them how they're doing. If you don't ask, they'll assume you no longer care about them. Arrange to go over to their house and spend time with them and cheer them up if they need it, as much as that person might want to be by themselves, they always need someone there to talk to.
  • For friends: Understand that if that person finds it difficult to be in social situations and you've made plans to meet up, don't be disheartened if they agree to meet up and then the day before cancel on you. It's not your fault, it's their thoughts' fault.
  • For friends: The person affected may seem like they're pushing you away, it seems like that, talk to them more, don't just assume because they haven't spoken to you in a while that they want nothing to do with you because that's usually never the case. It's often just the person affected's way of coping with things, don't misinterpret things like that.
These are just the basic carer/family/friends information you need to know about if you're close to someone who has a mental illness, obviously there is more information about crisis, conflict, money and education and I may do another blog post on that soon. :-)

I hope you're all doing okay.
That's all for now,
Rachel. xo

Hey guys!
So I've been admiring this palette for so long, the colours are so pretty and very wearable. I usually wouldn't even wear purple's but because they're pretty dark and glittery, I think it'd be easy to incorporate them into a smokey eye. I ended up buying this palette with my Christmas money as I just couldn't resist it any longer. Also, apologies for the not very great image quality (stupid iPhone.)

RRP: £7.99 from here and here.
As you can probably tell, all of the eyeshadows are shimmery except the top right colour 'Propose in Prague', which a matte light brown colour, perfect for contouring the eye socket.
It comes with a double ended sponge tip applicator, which I've actually found a use for lately, when my eyeshadow brushes are still a bit damp from cleaning them, sponge tip applicators work perfectly for packing the colour onto the lid, not brilliant for blending though.
The palette comes in the gorgeous (not very practical) matte black plastic casing which gets dirty after one use of the palette. -.-  One thing that is brilliant about the packaging, the mahoosive mirror that comes with it. The mirror is the same size as the bottom half of the palette, so it's perfect for a weekend away and all you'd need is this palette for your eyes and mirror.

(L to R) Pretty in Paris, Meet in Madrid, Court in Cannes, Lust in LA, Romance in Rome, Propose in Prague, A Vow in Venice, Marry in Monte Carlo, Honeymoon in Hollywood, Bliss in Barcelona, Forever in Florence and Love in London.

COME ON, CUTEST EYESHADOW NAMES EVER, RIGHT?

Obviously as this is a Sleek palette, it's highly pigmented and is so worth the £7.99. The eyeshadows are so creamy, but not in a 'ew these a so clumpy and just fall out' way, it's feels like putting on a cream eyeshadow but when it's on your eyes it looks like a powder eyeshadow. The colours are practically opaque after one swipe too.

I absolutely adore this palette and I will definitely be buying more Sleek palettes in the future. I think my next investment will be the Sleek Face Form Kit.

Tell me what Sleek products you own and what your favourite one is!

That's all for now,
Rachel. xo
